In a Swedish paper I recently read that somebody had the bad taste to demand that parents should have full responsibility for their children. One specific case that upset them suggested that parents should be held responsible for the cost of damage caused by their children, up to a limit of €750.
A discussion started between two people, one of them being the person who suggested this financial responsibility and one who opposed it. The person against it argued that it is absolutely impossible for a parent to know what their child is up to so it shouldn’t be possible to punish the parents. It’s not their fault so it’s wrong for the government to say they should take full responsibility for it.
On the other hand, the person who favoured it said there was no doubt that it’s the parent’s responsibility to have control over their kids actions, and that one of the main issues for parents is to not only raise them but to also take responsibility for them.
I’m sure that if you’re a regular follower of my work you already know that my opinion regarding this issue is, of course, that the parents have the major responsibility.
Of course you can find parents that for some reason – either temporarily or permanently – don’t have the capability, and then it is my view that the government should take their place. However, it is one of the key, fundamental issues in producing children, that you help them in life and take responsibility for them. Unfortunately too many parents consider it to be the government and the school that have the main responsibility.
All this is a typical matter of attitude, and if we consider the lack of a good attitude in our society today, it´s not strange that the parent’s role is more like running a hotel business where they produce meals, do the cleaning and wash clothes.
Raising children is NOT, however, a hotel business!

What does it mean to be a winner in the game of life?
My answer is: When you can do what you most like to do, be what you most like to be and have what you most want to have in life, without any outside distractions.
Think for a minute about being able to do only what you want do. There may be many and varied things that are important to you; perhaps it’s money and financial independence, peace of mind, being with friends and family or having your hobby as your profession. There are some of you who will not be satisfied until you reach the moon!
Today in Sweden we had wonderful weather for the season, and I decided to go for a bicycle ride. This wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t have my own business that I have control over. This for me is part of being a winner in my life.
My point is that no-one else can tell you what success is for you – only you can say what it is for you to be a winner in the game of life.
If you haven’t considered yourself to be a winner in your own life up to now, I suggest you really think it over and ask yourself “how come?” Then make a plan for how you can achieve it!

This is my two hundredth post on the huge subjects of Attitude and Personal Development!
To those of you who wonder how I manage to write so much about these subjects, my simple answer is this:
If you have an open mind, if you give more than you expect to get back and if you believe that thinking is for creation then taking your thoughts into action, then you also have the possibility.
In other words, you can easily do the same. If you change the way you look at things, then you will see that things will change for you – for the better

Those people who follow my work on a regular basis know that I have a burning passion for Personal Development which, under the right circumstances, creates a good attitude. With a good attitude you are much better able to deal with what you consider is important in your life.
The other night my wife Tina and I were talking about her previous occupation as a pre-school teacher, and I asked her how she would have described it if she was asked. Her answer was very succinct; “I’m working with the future!” What a description! Of course our children are the future so it’s critically important to provide them with all the necessary tools. To do this we adults need to act as prototypes for the children.
Then Tina said another thing: “Some people are like Christmas tree balls – shiny on the outside but empty on the inside!” What does this have to do with our children? If we don´t guide our children in the right way they too will be like the Christmas tree balls – a nice surface to look at on the outside but very empty on the inside.
What About Self-Knowledge? November 14, 2009

Limited self-knowledge means that you also have limited insight into your outside world and how it’s working. You may see the world as a stage and imagine yourself living in total co-operation and harmony within it. This leads to pitfalls, confrontations and even catastrophes along the road.
If you have limited self-knowledge you will never ever be able to understand other people – in fact I’d say you will be a-social. Don’t despair though as there is a cure for this.
If you constantly improve your attitude to the degree that you realize that the world isn’t circulating around you and that you are only a small cog in the wheel, then you’re progressing towards something great!

Many of you say that you don’t have the time or the energy needed to read or listen to audios to develop yourself’ may of you don’t ask about the things or situations you don’t understand. It’s always better to ask and take the risk of being considered stupid, rather than remaining that way.
I know several people who claim they don’t have time to read, surf on the internet or read specialist literature. I say they do have the time! They have exactly the same time as anyone else, it’s just a matter of prioritizing it. If ignorance is the factor that rules your life you should at least be aware of it.
Put the future in the centre of your awareness right now – today – so that you can create the possibility for you to make it good for yourself.
You can’t do this though if you don’t have a good attitude, don’t think in the right way and aren’t curious and willing to develop yourself

Today we know that, on average, people have about 60,000 thoughts each day, but what’s more interesting is that at least ninety-five percent of them are the same thoughts as yesterday! This I’d call narrow-minded thinking, but you might wonder if it really matters what you’re allowing your brain to work on.
A majority of people are spending much more time on negative thoughts than positive thoughts, so you’re thinking these same negative thoughts over and over again, instead of focusing on having a good, positive life. You can so easily get caught up in very bad habits without realizing it, and with this in mind you must begin to take control of the way you look at yourself and your life. In other words, consider your ATTITUDE.
One of the biggest reasons for these negative thoughts might be that they’ve been stored in your brain from experiences in the past. They can be about shortage of money, worries about relationships, anxiety from being aware of a childhood that not was so good. There are of course people who are worrying about completely un-essential things, for example; if someone pushes in front of them in a queue; when the lady behind the counter at the supermarket treats you badly; a bad tone in a workmate’s voice etc. Just stop and think whether it’s right that so many absolutely silly things are allowed to affect us in this negative way!
Why not pause for a minute and think how many positive things you lose when you agree to let the negative things have such influence in your daily life. You can easily change this behavior by gaining control over your thoughts, letting more positive ones in than negative ones, thereby gaining control of your life.
The key is your attitude and how you develop it. If you do it right your thoughts will change and your life will, step-by-step, become a more happy one!

I often think about what’s most important in life and it’s also a question that frequently arises from people I’m coaching.
It’s very difficult to know of course – especially because it’s such a personal thing. Personally, through thinking about this for a long time I’ve come to the conclusion – it’s LOVE!
I don’t mean love in sexual terms, but the love for people that we show by how we behave towards them. It can be a spouse, other people, towards animals and nature, in other words it’s how you live your life.
Those who consider love as the most important thing to us human beings are frequently questioned about it and made to feel foolish. Ask yourself why it can be that so many people not are aware and see love as a threat instead of what it really is, just the love that all humans need so desperately.
Finally: Love is such an important thing for us human beings and unconditional love is the most important.

Every minute of every day you’re exposed to things, events, situations, people, etc. and you have the opportunity to evaluate all of these, based on your own experiences. Most of these events, etc. you may consider to be of a relatively insignificant nature and therefore, deserving of little or no attention. But there are ALWAYS situations which have the possibility of enabling you to do something very special – regardless of who you are and whether you think you’re someone who gets opportunities.
I’m sure that, like most other people, you’re naturally disinclined to change your old behaviour and actions. You may be complacent and think that all changes are for the worse. You may wonder why you should change something you’ve done for many years and been comfortable with. You’ve built yourself a world in which you’ve adapted yourself to your life and what you’ve achieved, without reference to your dreams or your youthful visions of what could be. Your security in what you’re doing now is what’s most important and any change will be a threat rather than an opportunity.
Security is considered to be the one thing you most aspire to as a human being, but it’s also one of the most inhibiting and restricting things you can aim for! After all – what is security? Is it when you just do what you know how to do and don’t dare to do what might be the very thing that will make your life what you really want it to be? Who knows, if it came, it might be what you were really waiting for. But would you recognise it anyway?
Answer: You’ll recognise it only if you have an open mind!

A while ago I was asked about my opinion regarding a good sales person.
The first thing I said was that this person needs a good attitude – towards him/herself, the consumer, the profession, and towards their responses to the different situations that they’re faced with. To people who follow my Blog on a regular basis, my view on attitude probably doesn’t came as a surprise.
However, let me give you some examples of attitudes that determine ‘good sales’.
- There’s a good reason why you were born equipped with two ears and only one mouth – it’s so you can practice listening more to your customer!
- Being genuinely interested in the needs of your customer.
- Being passionate about your sales goals.
- Being goal-oriented, creating goals then making plans for achieving them.
- Following the plan and only turning away from it if absolutely necessary.
- Being well-informed regarding your products as well your competitors.
- Last, but not least, always looking for a win-win solution between yourself and the customer.
These of course are not the only things you have to manage, but if you achieve them you’ve reached quite a good level of salesmanship.
Everyone is a sales person in a way, even if it’s not our profession. You might want to see a particular movie and your significant other wants to see a different one. I can guarantee that you will now need to go through the same process of ‘selling’ your film choice as the sales person above.
You can find hundreds of similar situations similar in your daily life.
